Leave It Behind

Posted on 04/16/10 in Blog, No Comments

During your interview, you show off your professional portfolio, which contains a variety of your best completed or published work. You are proud of your portfolio pieces, but your interviewer only has time to glance over it.

Interviewers are not going to have a chance to closely read over your materials during the interview, so I recommend assembling a leave-behind, which includes a few pieces of your best work. It is especially important to have a leave-behind if you are applying for a job that requires you to write a lot, but most employers seek job candidates with good communication skills, so I would suggest leaving behind a piece of writing regardless.

Have your pieces assembled in a nice folder with a small label that explains what the piece is and how it was used. Another helpful thing to put in your leave behind is your list of references and, yes, another copy of your resume.

Here are some more suggestions of what you could put in a leave behind depending on the job you are applying for.

There is more to leave behind at an interview than a great first impression!
