Finding the Right Fit
I typically try to make my blog posts here general and hope they can help a wide range of Generation Y job candidates and give employers a better sense of how Gen Y networks. However, today’s post is about me, but I hope you can still benefit from my very recent experience.
Yesterday I signed on the line and accepted a position with Written Impact, a small business in Columbus, Ohio. Written Impact provides writing, marketing, web, social media and other services for their clients, primarily entrepreneurs and nonprofits. I will be a Writer and Social Media Manager and am very excited to begin my career. Also, since the heart of this website is networking, I just wanted to “put it out there” that I was referred to my new boss through a mutual connection!
As soon as I met Lori Crock, the Founder and Owner of Written Impact, I had a feeling Written Impact would be a good fit for me. It is obvious that Lori has great relationships with her clients and builds personal, long-term relationships them. Lori asked me talk to clients she works with at the same time she checked my references, which I thought was an immensely helpful thing to offer. Chatting with people Lori works with directly confirmed my first impression that Lori cares about building and maintain relationships, something I also believe is essential.
Lori talked about my future role as a Social Media Manager and looking to me to help manage her clients’ social media needs. She talked about being a partner and someone who empowers and encourages others. It was important for me to get a job where I was going to be empowered to live up to my potential and Lori is enabling me to do just that.
I could on and on about the reasons I saw Written Impact as the right fit for me, but the bottom line is, it felt like a good fit. I would love to hear how you knew a job was the “right fit.” Was it a feeling or was it something very specific? Also, look for a future post from Lori’s perspective on finding the right fit in employee. I hope you will benefit from hearing both sides of our story!
